We are proudly located inside the school building and have been part of this community’s history since 1975. Sexsmith Preschool is a play-based, experience-rich environment where children learn through exploration, connection, and hands-on discovery. Our goal is to make each child’s first experience with education feel warm, meaningful, and truly memorable.
We are currently taking in applications for 2026/2027 school year.
Please email at preschoolsexsmith@gmail.com to get a registration form and book a tour. It is strongly recommended to come in and see our space, meet the teachers and understand our way of providing learning experiences for children. Please note that we are NOT a daycare and do not provide full day care.

At Sexsmith Preschool, our focus is on preparing children for a confident and successful transition into elementary school. Through a play-based, nurturing environment, we build the foundational skills children need to thrive both academically and socially.
Our goals for every child include:
Emotional Regulation
Children learn to understand and manage their emotions, ask for help when needed, separate confidently from caregivers, and develop resilience when faced with challenges.
Independence Skills
We support children in becoming capable and confident in their daily routines, including toileting, handwashing, opening and eating their lunches, dressing themselves, and taking responsibility for cleaning up.
Listening and Following Directions
Children develop the ability to listen attentively, follow 1–2 step instructions, and understand and participate in classroom routines—key skills for a smooth transition to kindergarten.
Social Skills
We guide children in building meaningful relationships through turn-taking, using kind and respectful language, problem-solving, and learning to function as part of a group. Feeling socially confident and accepted is an essential part of school readiness.
Early Literacy, Numeracy, and Fine Motor Development
Through hands-on experiences, children build the skills needed for early learning, including using scissors, markers, paint, and glue. They begin recognizing their names, letters, numbers, shapes, and colours in a natural and engaging way.
Learning Through Play (and Downtime)
We believe children need the space to explore, imagine, and even experience boredom. These moments foster creativity, problem-solving, and independence—skills that are just as important as academics.
